How do you decide?

In class I worked with Ivy and our reaction to the "you decide" experience was mixed. It was difficult to determine where the "line" is in relation to violent video games and "real life" violence as a result. The picture that was chosen to represent the webpage was not necessarily over violent, gross or inappropriate. It was ,ore difficult to come to a conclusion as to the real effects on violence in our culture as a result of these images and video games.

Ultimately we decided that the image was acceptable and appropriate for the website homepage. We also came to the conclusion that censorship of an art form is not necessarily the answer. Our real opinion is that it is up to the individual and/or parents to take responsibility for the level of violence that is viewed. If you or your children are negatively affected and have the potential for violence then you will know what you need to do!

Some people may say that videos games are an art form, I do know that I would agree with that opinion. I do think that there are possibilities that some game may be an art form but most of the games that are played today are not. There defiantly was images on the website that where objectionable, but there were also plenty of images that did not signify anything. I did find it difficult to decipher which images would be appropriate for the homepage. I think it was mostly because I wasn’t sure what the homepage was supposed to be representing. I believe the questions or quotes in between the images did persuade my decision. I also picked both answers because I wanted to see where it led. I definitely believe video games are made to entertain, but I think it is within the human playing the game to find the line between entertainment or an aggression outlet and a future murderer.

Group Work, How do you like it?

During this semester we had a group presentation on a book that we read in class. The absolutely true dairy presentations were all very well done. Although I do not prefer to work in a group it was a requirment, so I must share my experience. I still do not prefer to work in a group, I think sometimes it's hard for people to get together outside of class because we all have other things going on. I know I'll have to work in a group again in many different situations but I'm partial to working on my own.

Nomadic Junior (A.T.D)

Why does Rowdy call Junior a Nomad?

I believe Rowdy calls Junior Nomadic in the end of the book for many different reasons. He states the definition as people who move around, who keep moving, in search of food and water and grazing land. Rowdy says Junior is Nomadic because he always knew Junior would leave the reservation. In Sherman Alexie's Novel The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Timed Indian, Rowdy talks about the definition of a nomad and how nobody on the reservation was nomadic except for Junior. Rowdy states, " I always knew you were going to leave us behind and travel the world. I had a dream about you a few months ago. You were on The Great Wall of China, you looked happy. and i was happy or you." I believe that Rowdy called Junior Nomadic because, unlike the other Indians on the rez, Junior got up and did something for himself.

My Inspiring Words

Keep Trying. Be Happy. Love Life

Mrs. Mott I"m sure you took notice that my favorite color might be green! Hahahaha!

Laughter and Tears Cartoon

I chose this image from The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Timed Indian where above this image it states, " When it comes to death, we know that laughter and tears are pretty much the same thing." I chose this image because to me it is a great way to show exactly that quote. People grieve in many different ways, some laugh and thinking about all of the great moments that were shared, or they could just be laughing hysterically. I think we all know why people would be crying. Death is a sad thing but its a way of nature and what are we to do but to live our lives to the best of our abilities and love each other.

Lunch Battle With Visa

The first ad I chose was the Burger King ad featuring the new "mini burgers". This ad caught my attention because of the proud looking woman in cook wear for shields. I'm not sure why she's wearing what she is, but i can only assume its because shes supposed to look happy about the new mini burgers. Since all women these days are known to be eating lighter.

If i were an advertising executive i would probably place this ad in malls and womens magazines. I would  be trying to target young women on the go. I think the ad is catchy and could help Fast Food Corps. continue to thrive through though economic times.

The second ad I chose was the Visa ad. At first I did not know what the ad was for until I noticed the very small Visa card in the bottom right corner, I also could barely read the writing on the white slip on the girls stomach. Once i could read the fine print it read " It's your life. How do you want to spend it?" This is a very enticing question, I feel as though it could be read two ways. First, how the ad wants you to read it, they want you to choose their credit card to "spend" your life the way you want. The second way I read it was a statement and then a rhetorical question, but still insinuating using their product.
